Teething and tantrums

Teething and tantrums

The joys of having a teething, tantruming 1 year old..
So Alyssia is 13 months old now, and she’s always been very cheeky.. however this past week I have really struggled as a parent. She is teething again, and has 3 teeth so far – but I think the top left tooth is coming through and is causing her some hassle. Normally she’s just clingy & a little bit whingy but this past week she’s been a little bit of a pain (to put it politely).

Everytime I go to put her in the pram or her carseat, she refuses and flings herself back making it a battle to get plugged in. She absolutely hates getting dressed and runs off everytime thinking it’s a game, I literally have to chase her down to get her clothes on.

At bedtime she’s started refusing her milk even though she gets excited when she sees she’s got it, she refuses to drink it and just puts her dummy in until I leave the room, it goes all quiet and I stick my head round the corner to see her drinking it.. confused mummy??

Mealtimes have been a disaster the past few days, she usually loves her food but now she’s started throwing it all on the floor and thinks it’s hilarious when i tell her off.

I honestly don’t have a clue what has happened to her and why she’s being so fussy this week – I don’t know if it’s because she’s noticed that I’m stressed or if it’s just down to teething?

Alyssia usually goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps all the way through until 8am (sometimes later) but the past few days she’s been hating bedtime, up half the night crying showing teething symptoms & then getting up super early. This morning we actually both went back to bed at 9am for an extra hours sleep, we were both exhausted and i had the world’s worst headache, when we woke up I felt a bit better but couldn’t take being in the house much longer so I took Alyssia to feed the ducks (finally – after promising her all week).

The teething stage has been really hard for us so far, she was fine as a young baby – but she only started getting teeth at 12 months and so far she’s only got 3. I’m guessing the tantrums just come with it? Like a big package?

How were your little ones with teething?
Did they have tantrums too?
What did you do to get through it?

Thanks for reading, im looking forward to hearing some of your experiences.

Teething is such a hard stage for both baby and mum! My daughter is 13 months and currently has 10 teeth so I sympathise with you completely! I have tried absolutely everything, anbesol to Ashton’s and parsons teething powder etc but what I find works for my daughter when she is extremely fussy and irritable is bonjela teething gel!! I also give a dose of paracetamol when things are really bad! My daughter outright refsuses her milk when her teeth are playing up as the sucking motion increases the pain, I just insure she has had the bonjela teething gel 20 mins prior to the scheduled bottle and that usually does the trick! I know it’s a Tough time for both you and your daughter but it’s just a case of finding out what works best for her! Good luck and I hope you find a solution to suit you both! 🙂
