Here are some top tips to get you started!

  • Address any dental concerns right away. Whenever we encounter a problem in life, we are often quick to dismiss it. However, when it comes to our teeth, these problems must not go away on their own and must be addressed quickly. Therefore, whether you think you need dental implants or fillings, you must reach out to a local dentist practice right away whenever you need some extra help. Visiting the dentist annually is a great way to solve any issues with your smile, so do not delay.
  • Learn that every smile is different. Whenever we open a magazine or flick through social media, we are met with photographs of bright, white smiles and impossibly straight teeth. While this makes it easy to draw comparisons with these smiles and our own, it’s important to remember that every smile is unique, and despite what you see in the media, nobody’s teeth are 100% white. Learning to embrace what makes you you is a great way to feel more positive in your daily life.
  • Figure out the cause of your dental issues. If you are dealing with persistent dental issues, figuring out the cause is a great way to minimise symptoms and bring back your winning smile. For example, many people are unaware of the fact that pregnancy affects your teeth. This is because it increases the level of acidity in your mouth, which could cause cavities to build up quicker. Therefore, if you are expecting, you can take better care of your teeth by brushing more carefully or having your teeth professionally cleaned by your dentist.

Purchase the right toothpaste. Just about every toothpaste on the market will include ‘dentist recommended’ somewhere on their branding in order to try and convince you to purchase their product. However, as a result, it can be hard to know which toothpaste you should actually buy. In these cases, your best option is to either consult with your own dentist, who will be able to provide you with advice that is specifically tailored to your dental health. You should also pay close attention to the fluoride content on the label. Fluoride is a mineral that is added to toothpaste to slow down tooth decay, and your toothpaste should contain, at a minimum, 1,350 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride, according to studies carried out by the NHS.
