Packing for a holiday with a toddler

Most people that write these posts are going abroad, however we are not. We are actually not travelling far from home at all, which in a way is quite reasurring.

This will be our second ‘short break away’ as a family of 3, the first time Alyssia was only a few months old and spent most of the time sleeping however this time she is 15 months old, walking, talking and loves to explore so I really am quite excited to take her away for a week knowing that she will be able to enjoy it.

As always with a toddler you find yourself taking absolutely everything away with you and probably won’t need half of it so this time I have written a list and tried to take the essentials rather than everything I own and more.

Our holiday is a self catering holiday meaning that we need to provide our own food, I haven’t bought anything for ‘meal times’ as I figured we would be eating out most nights but I have packed some lunch time snacks for Alyssia.

I have packed:

  • Kiddylicious blueberry wafers
  • Little angels fruit pouches
  • Ellas kitchen oaty fingers
  • Soreen banana lunchbox loafs
  • Peppa pig raisin boxes
  • Capri suns
  • Skips
  • Rice krispies (cereal)
  • Goats milk
  • BEAR fruit nibbles

On the morning of the holiday I expect we will probably go to Tesco and buy ourselves a meal deal for the car journey as well as anything else I think of last minute. (If you’re a parent, there will always be something you’ve forgotten)

What will I be taking from the kitchen?

  • Alyssias snacks (as listed above)
  • Coffee sachets for Rob – he’s a massive coffee lover at the minute.
  • Lunchbox for Alyssia
  • Cooler bag & 2 ice blocks
  • Alyssias cutlery
  • Baby bowls for Alyssias cereal
  • Bottles for bedtime milk
  • Beakers for water or juice

What will I be taking for the car journey?

If you are travelling a long way I would definitely reccomend that you stop a few times to have a rest. I hate driving long journeys as it really hurts my back and Alyssia gets so bored and irritated if shes not had a nap. Luckily we are not travelling a long way this time but toddlers get bored very easily and need to be kept occupied so I am packing a bag full of toys for the car journey. This will include books, her nuby teething keys, her lamaze dolly,

What else will we be taking?

Obviously I will be taking clothes, towels & toiletries for us all. If you live in the UK you will know how shocking the British weather can be so I am packing for all weathers, taking shorts & t-shirts, cardigans and jumpers for Alyssia along with long sleeved and short sleeved bodysuits. I will be taking extra nappies and wipes, Alyssias swimming costume, sunglasses, suncream, blankets & Alyssias duvet. Bigger items that we will be taking are the Travel cot & her stroller.

Is there anything that I have forgotten? Probably..

Thanks for reading,

Maybe when you pass your driving test we could all go for days out & maybe even butlins or somewhere all together one day ?
